'Poetry Basics: Rhyme and Rhyme Schemes is a helpful, succinct introduction on how to identify rhyme schemes in poetry and how to categorise different types of rhyme (e.g. end rhyme, half rhyme, alternating rhyme etc.)

The lesson provides a step-by-step introduction to the topic: defining rhyme schemes, offering guidance on labelling and annotating poems with rhyming patterns, providing a list of different types of rhyme and finally giving pupils the chance to practise using these skills in a printer-friendly worksheet with examples (answer sheet provided).

The lesson is intended for a KS4 English classroom (14-16 year olds) in a secondary school. However, the material would also be suitable to teach a higher ability KS3 class (year 9).
