Help teens turn a school task into a realistic plan, a visible first action and a useful next adjustment.

Next Move is a 64-page printable executive function workbook for grades 9-12. Ten guided lessons use original high-school situations, worked examples, personal planning tools and short real-world trials. Students practice capturing instructions, choosing priorities, estimating time, starting work, organizing materials, managing attention supports and revising plans when circumstances change.

What is included

路 10 four-page lessons with a clear Learn, Try a situation, Make a tool, and Try it and review routine.

路 10 original fictional school situations with 30 discussion and planning questions.

路 One worked example and a personalized tool in each lesson.

路 8 reusable pages: task capture, weekly planner, start/return card, time log, project planner, support request, materials reset and weekly review.

路 5 pages of model responses, including checked calculations for the time-planning cases.

路 3 additional facilitator pages with access options, a four-criterion process rubric and a review form.

路 8 front-matter and guidance pages, including student welcome, pacing, a skills map, a worked routine and a starting-point plan.

路 64 total pages, with black-and-white interiors and a color cover.

Skills students practice

Task initiation, planning, prioritization, time management, working-memory supports, organization, attention supports, flexible thinking, self-advocacy and self-monitoring. Each lesson links a strategy to an observable school task and a next-step decision.

How to use

  1. Choose a small school task or use one of the fictional cases. Review the starting-point plan with the learner.

  2. Teach the short lesson and model the worked example. Discuss the situation before asking for independent planning.

  3. Help the student make one usable tool, including a starting cue, a needed support and a clear task output.

  4. Arrange a brief opportunity to try the strategy during actual work or a simulation.

  5. Use the review page to notice what happened, keep useful parts and change one element. Repeat or select another lesson as needed.

Suggested pacing: 35-45 minutes of instruction and worksheet time per lesson, which may be split across two short meetings. Add a brief trial and a five-minute check-in later. Use one lesson a week for about ten weeks, or select pages for a targeted skill.
