Explore Navaratri from 22 September–2 October with this engaging, respectful whole-school assembly for primary schools.

This assembly introduces pupils to Navaratri, a special Hindu festival celebrated over nine nights, and explores how many Hindu families use this time to think about goodness, courage and kindness. Pupils learn that celebrations can vary between families, regions and traditions, while developing respect, curiosity, understanding and tolerance.

The presentation explores the values associated with Navaratri, including kindness, helping others, perseverance, self-discipline and having the courage to do the right thing. It also introduces the idea of light and hope as reminders of goodness during difficult times.

Through the story of Anika, pupils see how a child responds to an unkind situation by choosing not to react angrily, seeking help and speaking kindly. The story connects Navaratri’s themes of goodness and courage to situations children may encounter in their own lives.

The presentation includes a whole-school reflection activity, partner discussion, audience questions and a practical challenge encouraging pupils to bring a little “light” into someone else’s day through kindness and positive choices.
