This lesson contains:

• An introduction to America in the 1760’s and 1770’s and the situation with King George III and how the colonists lived. Students are introduced to Taxation without Representation and the idea of subjects vs citizens.
• A task to study a series of events in a table that led to American colonist frustrations. Students colour-code events that caused frustration and reactions of the colonists. Then they consolidate their knowledge by completing a paragraph to summarise the main causes of frustration.
• A closer study of the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts. This leads to further completion of the worksheet.
• A final consolidation activity to consider how much of the tension can be attributed to the Americans, and how much to the British. Students make a judgement and explain why.
• A plenary to consolidate key knowledge from the lesson.
