This lesson contains:

  • A starter to check previous learning. You can edit this to suit whatever you have previously taught.
  • A teacher-led introduction to life in Viking England under the rule of Danelaw and the conflict between them and Alfred the Great. There is then a video introducing the students to life in Viking Britain and a task for students to summarise what the Danelaw was.
  • An activity to study a historian’s quote about the Viking rule in England and then there is a colour-coding task about the contributions of the Vikings and their impact on Britain. This is extended by a writing task to give their opinions about the depth of their impact.
  • A plenary to recap the learning from the lesson.
