This whole-class feedback lesson is designed for IB English Language and Literature, with clear adaptability for A Level English Language. It works best as a post-assessment Paper 1 feedback lesson, but can also be used to explicitly teach students how to approach the paper.

Lesson focus:

  • Developing insightful interpretations of writer鈥檚 and designer鈥檚 methods
  • Moving students beyond identification towards meaning, intention, and effect

What鈥檚 included:

  • Whole-class feedback highlighting strengths and areas for development

  • Modelled examples contrasting descriptive and insightful analysis

  • Explicit breakdowns of what makes an interpretation effective

  • Structured group tasks with guiding questions

  • Less effective examples for students to improve

  • Independent DIRT tasks to embed learning
