This resource supports early writing through meaningful role-play in EYFS and Reception classrooms.

Inspired by real-life experiences, the hairdresser or barber shop role-play encourages children to explore language, imagination and early writing through play.

The pack includes a short teacher guide with ideas for setting up the role-play area and supporting children’s learning, followed by printable resources children can use during the play.

Resources included:

• salon signs
• open / closed sign
• role-play badges
• appointment book sheet
• hair style request form
• hair salon receipts
• hair salon price list
• checklists
• today’s special hairstyle poster
• product labels

These resources create meaningful opportunities for children to practise mark-making, writing names, recording appointments and exploring writing through play.
