German modal verbs lesson + worksheet for A1–A2: können, dürfen, wollen, möchten, müssen, sollen. PDF + editable Word, answers included, no prep.

A complete 60-minute lesson on all six German modal verbs plus möchten, with a matching three-level practice worksheet. The verbs are taught in meaning pairs, so students learn the difference between them, not just the forms. Everything is set on a class trip to Munich.

Lesson (9 pages):

Mission 01 – können and dürfen: ability vs permission, Darf ich …?, hostel-rules pair game
Mission 02 – wollen, möchten and mögen: wanting, ordering politely, saying what you like, group wish-list task
Mission 03 – müssen and sollen: rules and advice, plus the classic trap: nicht müssen vs nicht dürfen
Mission 04 – the sentence bracket: statements, questions and nicht, with an error-correction drill
Final mission: three role-plays (youth hostel, café, free afternoon) with partner sign-off stamps
Spickzettel: all seven verbs in one table, key phrases, common mistakes, and a culture box on German class trips
Teacher page: lesson timings, full answer key, support and challenge ideas

Worksheet (7 pages, 3 levels):

Stufe 1 – Warm-up: matching, finding the two verbs, true or false, meanings
Stufe 2 – Training: verb forms, gap-fills, adding a modal verb, word order, the muss nicht / darf nicht trap, café dialogue
Stufe 3 – Challenge: translation, find the mistake, writing class rules, a postcard from Munich
Self-check, target and teacher-feedback boxes, plus a full answer page

Ideal for: KS3 / Year 7–9 (ages 11–14+), as a grammar lesson, homework, revision before a test, or a cover lesson.

Formats: PDF to print and go, plus editable Word files so you can adapt names, exercises and difficulty for your class.
