This lesson contains:

  • Background information about land and the rebellions that had made William change his policies towards the Saxons. This is teacher-led and gives an overview of William鈥檚 new aims for the kingdom and the way he started to phase the Saxons out.
  • A quick activity to identify key words from the lesson.
  • A task for students to be given the information sheet, which they can stick in their books. They read and highlight the key information about the changes to land, then answer some follow up questions to consolidate the information with the main changes to land ownership.
  • An activity for the students to study the main ways William also consolidated his power using ceremonies and writs/coins etc. in the form of a series of sources. Students fill in the small worksheet with the main reasons, and there is an opportunity to do a follow up exam question afterwards.
