Football Coloring Pages, 37 printable sheets of helmets, goal posts, and a ball that runs on its own two feet. Made for game day in an elementary classroom.

On the Field

The football itself is the main character, drawn as a pointed oval with a raised seam and a short row of laces stitched across the middle. Give it two dot eyes, an open smile, stubby arms, and a pair of cleats and it becomes a player. On several sheets it wears a leather style helmet with a stripe running front to back and an ear flap on the side. One page shows a modern helmet on its own, complete with a face mask made of crossing bars. A goal post stands with two uprights rising from a single stem. A pennant flag flies from a pole with a star in the middle of the triangle. Word pages read GOAL, TOUCHDOWN, and GO TEAM in large hollow letters, with small triangles, dots, stars, and a rounded cloud filling the background.

Educational Benefits
  • Line detail work comes from the laces, the seams, and the face mask bars.
    • Sport vocabulary grows through naming the pennant, the uprights, and the helmet.
    • Team language enters when children color phrases meant to be shouted.
    • Oval shapes give the hand a different curve to follow than the usual circle.
    • Sustained effort is needed on pages scattered with dozens of small marks.
When These Come Out
  • Print during football season for a themed classroom morning.
    • Use at a school pep rally or spirit day.
    • Offer in PE when the field is too wet to use.
    • Add to a sports club activity folder.
    • Send home with a child who follows a team.
    • Set out at a family game watching party.
    • Keep for indoor recess in the fall.
