This ready-to-print English mock exam is designed for lower‑secondary students aged 13–15 (grades 8–9). It takes 50 minutes and covers all four language skills with a strong focus on listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing. The test is theme‑based around natural disasters, environmental pollution, and climate action – making it engaging and relevant.

The listening section (Task 1 & 2) features a news report about a typhoon hitting Nghe An Province. Students answer true/false, multiple choice, and complete a data chart with details about the disaster’s timing, effects (injuries, homelessness, property damage), and rescue efforts (food, medical supplies, clearing debris).

The vocabulary and grammar section includes: pronunciation of final “s” and vowel sounds, word stress (multi‑syllable academic words), multiple‑choice questions on disaster‑related vocabulary (survivors, struck, consist of), tenses (present perfect – “have struck”, past simple passive – “were destroyed”), conditionals (type 2 – “If there were fewer cars”), gerunds (“spend time listening”), and collocations (“lead to heart disease”). It also includes synonyms (contaminated = polluted), antonyms (spacious ≠ small), error identification, and short dialogues.

The reading section has two parts. The first passage recounts the “London Killer Fog” of 1952, testing comprehension of natural disasters (volcano, hurricane, flood) and details about the fog’s duration, causes, and effects. The second part is an email about environmental improvements in a village (lake cleaned, factory filtration system, dustbins, community rubbish collection).

The writing section includes sentence transformation (first time / never been, conditionals – “If I had enough money”, “Because I don’t live with my mother”), and five original sentence‑building tasks using given prompts (if, so, when, because, although).
Skills assessed: listening for specific information (dates, numbers, causes, consequences), pronunciation discrimination, stress placement, grammar accuracy (conditionals, passive voice, present perfect, gerunds), reading comprehension (main idea, factual details, inference), vocabulary in context, error identification, sentence rewriting, and using conjunctions to combine ideas.

Key topics: natural disasters (typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, fog), environmental pollution (water, air, noise, chemical waste), conservation (recycling, solar power, waste treatment), community action, and health effects of pollution.

Perfect for exam preparation, classroom assessment, or homework. No country‑specific references – suitable globally.
