Paper 1 is the one where every student – and I mean every student – makes the same mistakes. They confuse Milgram’s original study with his variations. They say ‘Hassett et al. tested children’ (they didn’t). They describe a procedure when the question asks for an evaluation. This guide stops all of that.

This is my complete Paper 1 toolkit for Cambridge 9990 Psychology. Inside: all 12 core studies broken down into single-page cards (aim, method, sample, procedure, results, conclusion, plus common exam traps and examiner tips). There’s a 10-mark ‘evaluate’ essay structure that actually works, key statistics to memorise (65% in Milgram, 29% in Andrade, 95% vs 50% in Piliavin), and a full Section B comparison framework.

Also covers: the four approaches (Biological, Cognitive, Learning, Social) with core assumptions, all five AS Level issues and debates (nature vs nurture, individual vs situational, use of children/animals, application to everyday life), and research methodology for Paper 1.

Everything follows the Cambridge 9990 syllabus for 2028–2030. No fluff. No vague ‘evaluate the study’ without telling them how.

What’s included:
• Paper 1 at a glance (60 marks, 1hr 30, 25% of A Level)
• Command words decoded – ‘describe’ vs ‘evaluate’ (crucial difference for marks)
• All 12 core studies with study-by-study priority guide (★★★★★ CRITICAL ratings)
• 10-mark evaluation essay template with PEEL framework and worked examples for all four approaches
• Key statistics to memorise – examiners love specific numbers
• Issues and debates applied to every study – including ‘which studies support nature vs nurture?’
• Research methods comparison tables (lab vs field vs case study vs observation)
• Ethical guidelines for human and animal participants – with which studies violated which
• 4-week revision plan + exam day strategies + quick reference appendix
• Common exam traps for EVERY study – so your students don’t fall for them

Suitable for AS Level (50% of AS) and A Level (25% of A) Cambridge 9990 Psychology. My students tell me the ‘common exam traps’ section alone stopped them losing 4–6 marks on Milgram alone.

A small ask: If this guide helps you and your students, please take two minutes to leave a review. It helps other teachers find resources that actually work – and I read every single one. Thank you!
