Help Year 8 hear the shape of music with this visual, colourful, ready-to-teach PowerPoint lesson on form and structure. Pupils learn to label binary (A B), ternary (A B A) and rondo (A B A C A) forms, and to use the correct vocabulary: section, refrain, episode, contrast, repetition and coda. Slides show how composers create contrast through melody, key, tempo, dynamics and timbre, and link classical forms to the verse and chorus structure of pop songs. A worked example models labelling a piece by ear, and a misconceptions slide tackles common errors. Two interactive, hands-on activities have pupils draw form maps while listening and compose their own rondo using the pentatonic scale. Explain-why questions build reasoning. Speech-bubble prompts nudge rather than gush. It is non-specialist friendly, works well as a cover lesson with any recordings you choose, and builds towards GCSE Music listening and composition. Everything is editable. 16 slides, about one hour, aligned to the KS3 National Curriculum.
