Here’s what many break-even resources get wrong: the 8132 specification never asks students to use the break-even formula or draw a chart. Students interpret charts — break-even output, margin of safety, profit or loss at a given output. This worksheet, written by a serving AQA GCSE Business Subject Lead, practises exactly that and nothing off-spec.

Three original, professionally drawn break-even charts (Hadley Prints, Oakford Furniture, Pembury Soaps) each anchor a question set: identifying break-even output and fixed costs, reading margin of safety against a marked current output, calculating profit or loss from the vertical gap between lines, and explain questions on how rising fixed costs move the break-even point and how the chart supports real decisions.

Eleven questions across 8 no-prep pages, with a separate mark scheme giving worked readings, sensible chart-reading tolerances, method marks and the Own Figure Rule — ready for self- or peer-marking.

A one-page student guide (“Reading the chart”) makes this ideal for teaching 3.6.3 from scratch, Paper 2 revision, or fixing the formula-habit students pick up elsewhere.

Also available: ARR, cash flow, profit margins and revenue/costs/profit worksheets, and the Complete Calculations Workbook.
