STOP TEACHING FINANCIAL NEEDS ACROSS THE LIFE CYCLE AS A SIMPLE LIST OF LIFE STAGES.

This complete three-lesson sequence covers LO8 of the Agored Cymru Level 3 Certificate in Financial Studies (CeFS), Unit 1. Students explore how financial needs change throughout life before analysing realistic transitions and producing a structured, evidence-based evaluation.

The pack covers LO8.1 through three fully planned 90-minute lessons:

IDENTIFY → ANALYSE → EVALUATE → JUSTIFY

LESSON 31 – FINANCIAL NEEDS ACROSS LIFE STAGES: INTRODUCTION

Students identify financial needs associated with adolescence, adulthood, mid-life and retirement. They distinguish between predictable and unpredictable needs and explain why financial responsibilities change over time.

LESSON 32 – FINANCIAL NEEDS ACROSS LIFE STAGES: ANALYSIS

Students analyse how financial needs change during major life transitions. Scenario-based activities help them connect personal circumstances, external influences and financial pressures to different stages of the life cycle.

LESSON 33 – EXTENDED WRITING AND EVALUATION

Students use PEEL, model answers and success criteria to evaluate how financial needs change from adolescence to later adulthood. They complete a structured 6-mark response, assess a peer’s work and improve their answer through redrafting.

EVERY LESSON INCLUDES

• A clear, structured lesson plan
• A complete presentation with detailed teacher notes
• A student worksheet that follows the lesson plan and supports active learning
• A homework task with Part A and Part B, mirroring the exam setup
• Retrieval practice, realistic financial scenarios and exam-style questions
• Differentiation, sentence starters, stretch tasks and modelled answers
• Opportunities for peer assessment, redrafting and independent study

• LO8.1 – Evaluate lifelong financial planning through the life cycle
