This 9 lesson enquiry scheme of learning explores the history of the Silk Road, with a focus on the Medieval Islamic Empire.

L1: students will explore the origins of the Silk Road, and how it connected the ‘east’ and ‘west’.

L2: students will learn how the Medieval Islamic Empire developed, and how the Silk Road helped the religion of Islam to spread.

L3: students will be able to explain the significance of Medieval Baghdad and why it was the centre of the Medieval Islamic Empire.

L4: students will explore the Muslim influence on Andalusia (Spain).

L5: students will learn why Medieval Sicily was so diverse.

L6: students will be able to explain how the Silk Road helped spread Medieval Muslim medical knowledge, and how it helps us stay healthy today.

L7: students will consolidate their learning and be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the Silk Road via creative methods.

L8: students will be able to explain why and how the Silk Road/ Medieval Islamic Empire came to an end.

L9: students will consolidate their learning and be able to explain the legacy of the Silk Road/ Medieval Islamic Empire.
