Explore Sukkot from 25 September–2 October with this engaging, respectful whole-school assembly for primary schools.

This assembly introduces pupils to Sukkot, a Jewish festival celebrated in autumn, exploring its themes of thankfulness, welcome and togetherness. Pupils learn about the sukkah, a special temporary shelter where Jewish families may eat, spend time together and celebrate.

The presentation explores three central ideas behind Sukkot: thanksgiving, remembering and community. Pupils learn how Jewish people may give thanks for food, harvest, home and the people in their lives, while remembering the journey of their ancestors and the importance of hospitality.

Through the story of Maya, pupils see how a family celebration in a sukkah can create a sense of warmth, belonging and togetherness. The story encourages children to think about what makes somewhere feel like home and how we can make others feel welcome.

The presentation includes a quiet reflection activity, partner discussion and audience questions exploring gratitude, hospitality, belonging and learning about festivals from different faiths.

The assembly finishes with a simple challenge encouraging pupils to say thank you, welcome someone new or left out, and notice one good thing in their day.
