Here’s how to make a trug full of vegetables out of clay with video demonstrations and easy to follow, child friendly, step by step instructions. There are two versions to choose from. Version 1. is basic and Version 2. is slightly more advanced.

This project can either be made as part of a WW2 ‘Dig for Victory’ topic or, as part of a healthy eating or growing plants topic. Ideal as part of a ‘WW2’ or ‘Healthy Eating’ themed day or as part of an Art Day/Art Week. It won’t take a whole day to finish, but, as there are lots of items to make, you can allow your children plenty of time too make their vegetables after they have made their trug.

This project is suitable for children aged 7 and upwards.

This project is made using four basic shapes, a ball, a bean, a sausage and a carrot shape. There is also a video included demonstrating how to make these shapes.

This project can also work as a one to one activity or in small groups.

pots of slip or water

acrylic paints
palette
