(9–1) starter and retrieval booklets covering:

  • Paper 1 – Medicine Through Time
  • Paper 2 – Anglo-Saxon and Norman England
  • Paper 2 – Superpower Relations and the Cold War
  • Paper 3 – Weimar and Nazi Germany

Each booklet follows the same clear and consistent format, making them easy for students to use across the different GCSE topics.

At the beginning of each lesson, students complete a 9-question retrieval grid designed to revisit previous learning and strengthen long-term memory. These grids can also be easily edited if you wish to include retrieval questions from other topics.

Each booklet then focuses on regularly practising one key exam question from that paper:

  • Medicine Through Time – the 4-mark comparison question.
  • Anglo-Saxon and Norman England – the ‘Describe one feature of…’ question.
  • Superpower Relations and the Cold War – the consequence question.
  • Weimar and Nazi Germany – the inference question.

This means students are not only retrieving important knowledge at the start of each lesson, but are also repeatedly practising a specific exam skill. Over time, they can build confidence and become secure in picking up these marks without the question needing to be separately embedded into the middle of lessons.

Each booklet also includes:

  • A timeline for students to complete and annotate throughout the topic.
  • A Key People section to build up as important individuals are introduced.
  • Clear ‘How to Answer’ exam guides for the different question types.
  • Sentence starters and structured support for exam responses.
  • Editable retrieval questions and activities.

These resources work particularly well as starter booklets, with students completing a section at the beginning of each lesson. They can also be used as standalone revision booklets for Year 11, helping students revisit key knowledge, chronology, individuals and exam technique before their GCSE exams.

All four booklets are designed in the same style, so students quickly become familiar with the layout and expectations, making this a simple and consistent resource to use across the Edexcel GCSE History course.
