A fun speaking and listening game where pupils translate words from French to English and vice versa in a race across the game board. The game focuses on family vocabulary.

The following resources are provided:

• Vocabulary sheet
• Rules of the game

Pupils will learn family member names (e.g. mum, dad, brother, sister, aunt, etc), different determiners (e.g. the, a , two, my) and sentences (e.g. I have a sister, This is my aunt, etc).

Resources provided enable pupils with a range of ability levels to participate in the game.

The game could be played as a starter or plenary, or as the main activity of a lesson. Pupils can play in small groups or even as a class.

This game is differentiated three ways and comes with printable game boards, clear instructions and answer sheets.

This material can be used to teach the following National Curriculum languages attainment targets:
• To broaden their vocabulary;
• To listen attentively to spoken language;
• To speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures;
• To present ideas and information orally to a range of audiences;
• To develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases;
• To understand basic grammar appropriate to the language being studied, including feminine, masculine and neuter forms; key features and patterns of the language; how to apply these, for instance, to build sentences.
