In this activity, students will examine the violent conflict between British settlers and Indigenous Tasmanians in the early nineteenth century, exploring how the expansion of colonial frontiers, the seizure of land, and the introduction of martial law drove the two groups towards open warfare. They will also investigate how the Friendly Mission and the relocation of Indigenous people to Flinders Island brought the fighting to an end, at an enormous cost to Aboriginal culture and life.
