British Empire Trading Game.

Pupils use oracy skills to trade and barter with other countries. The aim of the game / lesson is to understand Britain’s role in the Empire, and how the Empire enabled Britain to become so rich.

Each member of the class (up to 13) takes on the role of a country in the British Empire. They are given a selection of resources that the country has, some money, and a goal card. All ‘countries’ then trade with one another, so that they can make the most money possible, and achieve the goal on their goal card. There are four rounds, and with each round the rules of the game change slightly, becomingly increasingly rigged to show Britain’s control of trade within the Empire.
