Students study how much authority Queen Elizabeth I had towards the end of her reign. LESSON 5

A 17 slide fully resourced lesson containing warm up & learning review activities, a choice of tasks, printable resources and a printable knowledge organiser with all background knowledge:

  • Slide 1: Title slide
  • Slide 2: Warm Up - A discussion based on the advantages and disadvantages of a monarch who is older with many years of experience. Challenge question included which links to the modern day.
  • Slide 3-4: Recap - A link back to Elizabeth鈥檚 relationship with her Parliament. Students decide which of the nine statements relates to an opinion of Elizabeth or an opinion of her Parliament. Answers given.
  • Slide 5: Starter Source Analysis - A study of a portrait of Elizabeth when she was older. Includes increasingly challenging prompt questions about the portrait and its purpose.
  • Slide 6: Background information outlining Elizabeth鈥檚 main strengths by the 1590s. Includes challenge questions.
  • Slide 7: An outline of the choice of two main tasks.
  • Slide 8: Task 1 - A printable table for students to outline and explain how Elizabeth鈥檚 authority was in decline after 1590.
  • Slide 9-10: Task 2 - An alternative printable worksheet. Students decide if the statements suggest Elizabeth鈥檚 authority was in decline or if it remained. Includes challenge and answers.
  • Slide 11: Challenge questions with links to AQA exam question stems.
  • Slide 12: Interpretation analysis
