Students examine the features of Elizabeth I鈥檚 court and government as well as explain their importance to Elizabeth. Features include: court, privy council, parliament, Justices of the Peace, Lords Lieutenants and Elizabeth鈥檚 key ministers.

A 22 slide fully resourced lesson containing warm up & learning review activities, a choice of tasks, printable resources and a printable knowledge organiser with all background knowledge:

  • Slide 1: Title slide
  • Slide 2-5: Warm Up - Students identify the differences between Elizabethan parliament and modern day UK parliament. Includes answers and printable activity sheet.
  • Slide 6-7: Recap - Students complete a gap fill activity to recap Elizabeth鈥檚 succession as queen. Includes answers and challenge question.
  • Slide 8: Starter - Students watch a 10 min. clip about Elizabethan society and given a focus to make notes on.
  • Slide 9-12: Background information covering the features and importance of the court, parliament, privy council and features of local government roles.
  • Slide 13-15: Task 1 - Key term match up. Includes answers and printable activity sheets.
  • Slide 16-17: Task 2 - Table fill activity with printable resource.
  • Slide 18: Task 3 - Optional research opportunity for students to find out more about the people closest to Elizabeth.
