A Handout and PPT which is part of a unit designed to teach students how to engage with a range of written and visual texts.

Using song lyrics as a written text. The handout includes the lyrics to two songs. One of the songs I have removed some words from using … as the lyrics were a little risqué (it is a satirical song by a comedian). I have a mature class so double check this song with your students in mind. The second song is set in 2006 and is about the technology that was available then. This one is ok to watch as a video. Students can then consider if you were writing a song about this today, what would remain the same and what would you need to change to make it applicable. After answering the 4 questions for these two sources there is a parody song to watch (if time).
