Job Overview

St. Andrew's International Primary School invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and passionate Early Years Teachers to join our vibrant British-curriculum school as a Pre-Nursery Teacher, commencing in January 2027.

About the School

St. Andrew's International Primary School is situated in a safe, leafy area of Blantyre, Malawi’s commercial capital. As a well-established institution, the school enjoys an excellent reputation within Malawi, across Southern Africa, and globally.

We are currently in an exciting transformational phase, evolving to meet the demands of the 21st century while remaining a deeply inclusive community where every child is encouraged to excel. Our academic, pastoral, and developmental expectations are high, and we are proud to deliver the updated UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, thoughtfully adapted to resonate within both an international and African context.

Central to our transformation is the integration of modern sensory exploration, early technical fluencies, and play-based Inquiry-Based Learning from the very earliest stages of education. We view St. Andrew's not merely as a foundation for primary education, but as a gateway to a rich and rewarding future. By embedding nurturing early childhood frameworks, we ensure our young learners develop curiosity, confidence, and foundational resilience for the modern world.

About the Country

Malawi, known as the "Warm Heart of Africa," is a country of immense beauty and growing potential. As a prominent member of the Commonwealth, Malawi places a high value on English as the primary language of business, science, and international diplomacy. Blantyre offers a pleasant climate and a welcoming atmosphere for expatriate staff. Outside of school, the stunning landscapes of Mount Mulanje and the world-renowned shores of Lake Malawi offer unique opportunities for exploration and relaxation.

Professional Requirements and Attributes

  • Full UK teaching certification (QTS, PGCE, PGCEi, B.Ed) or an equivalent professional qualification from your home country, with a specialization in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or a related field.

  • A proven track record of teaching and caring for toddlers and young children aged 14 months to 4 years within the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or an accredited British International School.

  • A demonstrated commitment to high standards of early childhood pedagogy through a play-based, inquiry-driven approach, fostering physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.

  • Proven experience in supervising and guiding Associate Teachers, Nursery Assistants, and early care staff to deliver exceptional toddler care, routine health, hygiene, and safe play.

  • A flexible, nurturing, and creative approach to curriculum design, coupled with strong observational assessment skills and developmental milestone tracking.

  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to communicating with transparency, warmth, and consistency to parents, staff, and students.

  • Valid Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to deployment).

  • Full compliance with Safer Recruitment practices and a deep commitment to child protection, safeguarding, and the welfare of young children.

What We Offer

  • Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Fully furnished housing.

  • Medical insurance.

  • School places for staff children.

  • A supportive, kind, and collaborative work environment that prioritises staff wellbeing.

Interested candidates should apply via TES, providing a comprehensive CV, including three professional referees (one of whom must be your current Headteacher) and a recent photograph, alongside a letter of application.

Early applications are strongly encouraged; the school reserves the right to appoint an exceptional candidate ahead of the closing date.
