Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh
Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh is a growing British international school for children aged 2 to 18, bringing together the heritage of one of England's great schools with the energy and opportunity of a young school in one of Southeast Asia's most exciting cities.
Our new 7.2-hectare Sen Sok campus opened in September 2026, bringing Early Years, Primary and Secondary together on one purpose-built, all-through campus.
For teachers, this is a particularly exciting time to join us. Shrewsbury Phnom Penh has the resources, heritage and ambition of an established international school, while retaining something much rarer: the opportunity to contribute to a school that is still growing, developing its traditions and building its future.
The Shrewsbury StoryOur story begins in England in 1552, when Shrewsbury School was founded by Royal Charter.
For almost five centuries, Shrewsbury has combined academic ambition with a belief in developing the whole person. Among its former pupils is Charles Darwin, whose curiosity, independence of thought and willingness to question the world remain fitting qualities for a Shrewsbury education today.
Shrewsbury Phnom Penh is proudly part of this wider family of schools, alongside established Shrewsbury schools in the UK and Asia.
We value this heritage, but we are not defined by the past. A Shrewsbury education should prepare children for the world in which they are growing up.
That means excellent teaching, intellectual curiosity, strong relationships, rich opportunities beyond the classroom and an education that develops both character and capability.
Our Approach to EducationAt Shrewsbury, children are at the heart of every decision we make.
Our curriculum is rooted in the National Curriculum for England and develops towards IGCSE and A Level study in the Secondary School.
We want our pupils to acquire secure knowledge and strong academic foundations, but education at Shrewsbury extends well beyond examination results.
We want children to become curious thinkers, confident communicators and thoughtful young people who are willing to participate, contribute and challenge themselves.
We believe the business of learning should be serious fun.
In practice, this means classrooms where expectations are high but children enjoy learning; where excellent teaching sits alongside creativity and exploration; and where pupils are encouraged to ask questions, make connections, take intellectual risks and discover what they can do.
Sport, music, performance, creativity, leadership, service and co-curricular activities are an important part of that education.
Our mission is ultimately straightforward: to educate and empower young people to flourish in life and contribute positively to the world around them.
Our New Sen Sok CampusOur new campus has been designed to give pupils and teachers the space and facilities to make ambitious learning possible.
Set across 7.2 hectares in Sen Sok, Phnom Penh, the campus includes specialist learning and creative spaces, science and technology facilities, a three-storey library, performance and music facilities, extensive sports provision and dedicated spaces supporting pupil wellbeing.
Facilities include:
- modern science and technology laboratories;
- specialist art, design and creative spaces;
- a three-storey library;
- a 600-seat theatre and black box performance space;
- music and recording facilities;
- an Olympic-standard swimming pool;
- a full-size football pitch and athletics facilities;
- dedicated Early Years and Primary learning environments;
- Sixth Form and collaborative learning spaces; and
- dedicated pastoral and wellbeing provision.
More important than the buildings, however, is what happens inside them.
We are building a school in which excellent teachers know their pupils well, relationships matter and children feel both supported and challenged.
Working at Shrewsbury Phnom PenhWe are ambitious about the school we are building, and we recognise that excellent schools are built by excellent people.
We therefore look for teachers who care deeply about their craft and about the children they teach.
Our teachers are expected to bring strong subject and pedagogical knowledge, high expectations and a commitment to continuous improvement. Just as importantly, we look for colleagues who are generous, collaborative and willing to contribute to the wider life of the school.
Working in a growing school requires flexibility. Not everything comes with an inherited tradition or a long-established way of doing things. There are opportunities to contribute ideas, develop programmes, establish routines and help shape the culture of the school.
For the right teacher, that is one of the most rewarding aspects of joining Shrewsbury Phnom Penh.
Teachers with recent experience of the UK education system are particularly encouraged to apply, although we welcome strong applications from excellent practitioners with relevant British or international school experience.
What We OfferOur staff benefit from:
- small class sizes and strong classroom support;
- motivated pupils and families who value education;
- a modern, purpose-built and well-resourced campus;
- a friendly and professional working environment;
- a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and positive professional relationships;
- high-quality professional development;
- opportunities to take responsibility, develop professionally and contribute to the growth of the school;
- a competitive international remuneration package;
- furnished accommodation or an accommodation allowance;
- comprehensive medical insurance;
- flight and relocation support; and
- tuition fee remission for eligible dependent children.
As the school grows, there will also be opportunities for talented colleagues who demonstrate the right experience, commitment and leadership potential to develop their careers with us.
Living and Working in Phnom PenhPhnom Penh is a fascinating place in which to live and work.
Cambodia's capital combines a rapidly developing modern city with a distinctive history and culture. It has a growing international community, a thriving restaurant and café scene and easy access to destinations across Cambodia and the wider Southeast Asian region.
For teachers joining us from overseas, Phnom Penh offers the opportunity not simply to work internationally, but to become part of a school and a city experiencing an important period of growth and change.
Join UsWe are interested in people who want to do more than simply take their next teaching post.
We want colleagues who care about children, take pride in excellent teaching and want to be part of building something special.
Joining Shrewsbury Phnom Penh at this stage in its development provides an unusual professional opportunity: to become part of the Shrewsbury story while helping to write the next chapter of it in Cambodia.
If that appeals to you, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Candidates should complete the relevant TES or Schrole application in full. Early applications are encouraged, and the School reserves the right to interview and appoint suitable candidates before the published closing date.
Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh is deeply committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Shortlisted candidates will undergo background checks, including following-up references with previous employers. The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced disclosure checks through the Disclosure and Barring Service and/or the local national equivalent.
