The opportunity
We are seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic, and reflective Counsellor to join Doha College. The successful candidate will bring a strong ethical foundation and a nuanced understanding of the diverse emotional and psychological needs of pupils within an international school context. This includes sensitivity to the lived experiences of pupils from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds, as well as an awareness of the particular challenges associated with expatriate life.
A secure and up-to-date understanding of safeguarding within educational settings is essential. The postholder will be expected to work confidently within statutory and school-based safeguarding frameworks, contributing to early identification, intervention, and ongoing support for pupils.
The role requires a proactive, integrative approach.

You will play a central role in providing high-quality therapeutic support to pupils, responding to a wide range of emotional, social, and psychological needs. This includes delivering one-to-one counselling, facilitating small-group interventions, and supporting pupils at key transition points, such as entry to the school, movement between phases, and preparation for examinations or post-16 pathways.
A collaborative and consultative approach is essential. You will work closely with the Vice Principal, Deputy Heads Pastoral, Assistant Heads, Heads of Year, School Nurses, the Lead Counsellor and teaching staff to provide specialist guidance on pastoral care and pupil wellbeing. This will include offering psychologically informed perspectives, supporting staff in responding to complex needs, and contributing to a joined-up, whole school approach to safeguarding and wellbeing.
